MANITOBA Hydro has been named one of Canada's best corporate citizens in 2009, according to Corporate Knights magazine.
The eighth annual Best 50 Corporate Citizens in Canada survey ranks corporate citizenship based on pension fund quality, executive diversity, CEO-pay fairness, tax-dollar generation as well as renewable energy investments and human rights considerations in certain sectors. Aboriginal relations were added as a performance indicator in this year's survey.
Manitoba Hydro was the only Manitoba company to make the cut.
"Anytime that you get recognized as a company is really quite gratifying," said Bob Brennan, president and CEO of Manitoba Hydro.
Brennan credited Hydro's environmental and community efforts for the recognition. "We try hard to be a good corporate citizen and work hard to meet it," Brennan said. "We try to treat the environment in a good way. We support various community events and our employees are very involved (in them)."
